Polya is a course-aware AI tutor you use in your web browser at askpolya.com. You bring in a course from Canvas, from the class website, or by uploading your own PDFs. Polya then answers your questions from those materials, with a numbered citation that opens the exact page or passage it used. Polya is built to help you learn, not to finish your work for you. On a problem, it starts with a hint and gives one step at a time. You choose how much help you want in each course, and you can change that choice whenever you like.

What you can do with Polya

  • Ask about your course. Ask about a concept, a reading, or a problem you’re stuck on. Polya answers from your materials and cites each claim.
  • Check the source. Select a citation to open the PDF at the cited page, or the passage it came from.
  • Get help at your pace. Use I’m stuck — next step to get the next hint, and Check yourself to try a related question on your own.
  • Set how much help you want. Each course has a study mode. Practice mode, for example, asks for your answer before it reveals anything and hides answer keys.
  • Prepare for exams. The Study tab turns an exam’s scope into a topic map and gives you practice questions graded the same way every time.
  • Use it where you already work. Connect Polya to ChatGPT or Claude so those assistants can search your course materials and respect the study mode you chose.

How a course is organized

Each course in Polya has three tabs at the top of the page:

What you need

  • A Google account to sign in.
  • A web browser on a computer, tablet, or phone.
  • Course materials to bring in, from at least one of these places:
    • A Canvas course. You connect with the Scope extension for Chrome or with a Canvas access token.
    • A public course website.
    • PDFs or lecture transcripts on your device.
Polya is an AI tutor, and its answers can be wrong. Every answer that uses your course shows its sources, so you can open the page and check. You choose each course’s study mode yourself; instructors can’t set it. Your syllabus and your school’s honor code decide what help is allowed in a course.
