Today the Mac app is a companion for Lectra on your iPad. It doesn’t open, mark up, or store documents, and it doesn’t include notebooks, Python, or the terminal. Use Lectra on your iPad for those. The Chrome extension named Lectra Receiver is a different app. To learn about it, see Lectra Receiver for Chrome.
Before you begin
- A Mac with macOS 13 Ventura or later. Both Apple silicon and Intel Macs work.
- Lectra on your iPad. To get it, see Install Lectra.
- A Lectra account that you sign in to with Google. The Mac app signs in with Google only, so use the same Google account on your iPad and your Mac. If you signed in to Lectra on your iPad with Apple, the Mac app can’t reach that account yet. To learn about accounts, see Your Scope account.
Install Lectra for Mac
1
Download the app
On your Mac, go to canvascope.org/mac, and then click Download for Mac. The download is a disk image file that ends in
.dmg. It’s signed and notarized by Apple, and it isn’t on the Mac App Store.2
Move it to Applications
Open the
.dmg file from your Downloads folder. In the window that opens, drag Lectra Receiver into your Applications folder.3
Open it
Open Lectra Receiver from your Applications folder. If macOS asks whether you’re sure you want to open an app downloaded from the internet, click Open. The app has no window or Dock icon. Its icon appears in the menu bar at the top of your screen.
4
Sign in
Click the Lectra Receiver icon in the menu bar, and then click Sign In. Choose the same Google account that you use for Lectra on your iPad.
5
Allow screen and control access
The menu shows two permissions: Screen Recording and Accessibility. Click Grant next to each one. macOS opens System Settings > Privacy & Security. Turn on Lectra Receiver in each list.
6
Reopen the app if it asks
macOS applies these permissions only after the app restarts. If the menu shows Enabled it? Quit & Reopen to finish, click it.
Why the app needs these permissions
macOS doesn’t let any app show or control your screen without your approval.
Your iPad can’t control the Mac until both are on.
Use the menu bar app
Click the Lectra Receiver icon in the menu bar to see its status and controls. A colored dot shows the status at a glance.
The menu also has these controls:
- Share this Mac: turn this off to stop your iPad from reaching the Mac. Turn it on again when you want access.
- Disconnect: appears while your iPad is connected. Click it to end the session from the Mac.
- Settings…: opens the app’s settings.
- Check for Updates…: checks for a newer version of the app and installs it.
- Quit: closes the app. Your iPad can’t reach the Mac until you open it again.

Your iPad can wake a sleeping Mac so you can connect to it. The General tab of the app’s settings tells you which kind of wake works on your Mac:- From anywhere: works when you allow notifications for Lectra Receiver. A Mac that has been asleep for a long time, or a laptop on battery with the lid closed, still has to be woken by hand.
- On the same Wi-Fi only: your iPad can wake the Mac when both are on the same network. To wake it from anywhere, allow notifications for Lectra Receiver in System Settings > Notifications.
- Can’t wake: your iPad can’t wake the Mac once it sleeps. Turn on Wake for network access in System Settings, and allow notifications for Lectra Receiver. The app’s Open System Settings… button takes you to the right place.
