- Scope privacy policy: the Scope extension, Lectra, and the Scope website.
- Polya privacy policy: Polya.
The short version
- No ads. None of the Scope apps show ads.
- No tracking. Scope doesn’t track you across other companies’ apps and websites, doesn’t use advertising identifiers, and doesn’t sell your data.
- Your notes and documents aren’t used to train AI models. Scope doesn’t use your notes, documents, or course materials to train AI models, and Lectra’s document intelligence never sends your documents off your device.
- Your course search stays on your computer. The Scope extension builds its search index of your courses in your browser and searches it there.
- Lectra’s document intelligence runs on your iPad. Summaries and answers about your documents are written on your device, and they’re off until you turn them on.
- Accounts are optional where they can be. You can search with the extension and use Lectra without signing in. Polya needs an account because it keeps your courses for you.
- Scope counts how many people use its apps. The count never includes what you search for, read, or write. See How Scope counts usage.
What stays on your device
Lectra doesn’t sync your annotated documents across devices. When you’re signed in, it keeps a backup copy of your pages. To learn more, see Backups.
What’s stored with your account
For how to remove any of this, see Delete your account and data.
How AI features use your data
Lectra: summaries, answers, and study tools
Lectra: summaries, answers, and study tools
These features use Apple Intelligence on your iPad or iPhone. The text of your documents is processed on your device and isn’t sent to Scope or anyone else to power them. They’re off until you turn them on.In Settings > Intelligence, you can turn them off and see recent activity from the last 30 days. Lectra keeps only the name of each document and nothing from inside it. To learn more, see Use Apple Intelligence in Lectra.
Lectra: the Remote Desktop assistant
Lectra: the Remote Desktop assistant
The assistant that works your Mac from your iPad uses your own Anthropic API key. When you use it, your request and images of your Mac’s screen are sent to Anthropic to decide each step, under the terms of your Anthropic account. To learn more, see Lectra for Mac.
Scope extension: Ask Scope
Scope extension: Ask Scope
To answer a question, Scope may send the course passages it needs through Scope’s servers to an AI service that writes the answer. That data is used only to answer you. Scope doesn’t use it to train AI models, sell it, or use it for advertising. To learn more, see Ask Scope.
Polya
Polya
To answer you, Polya sends your question, the relevant passages from your course, and your recent conversation to the AI service that writes its replies. Another service reads your course files, including scanned pages, to build the search index. These services work on Scope’s behalf, and they aren’t allowed to use your materials or conversations to train their models.
Polya in Claude or ChatGPT
Polya in Claude or ChatGPT
If you connect Polya to Claude or ChatGPT, that assistant can see the names of your Polya courses, the study mode for each, and passages from your materials when you ask about a course. Polya never receives your chat history. What you say in Claude or ChatGPT is covered by that company’s own privacy policy. The connection can only read; it can’t change anything in Polya or Canvas.
How Scope counts usage
Scope counts how many people use its apps, so it can tell whether they’re working. Each app sends a short signal when you use it. The signal contains:- A random number your device makes for that install.
- Which app and platform it is.
- The app version.
